We are in Scotland right now and we've been traveling to and visiting many sites that have to do with Robert the Bruce becoming king and the Wars of Scottish Independance. To understand how and why Robert the Bruce became king- you have to understand what happened right before that. The death of King Alexander III was the key event that started all that would come next for Scotland- a succession crisis, the threat of a civil war, a power vacuum that many tried to fill, England under Edward I claiming overlordship, war, William Wallace, the murder of John Comyn, Robert the Bruce becoming king, and finally Independance.
